HORTA-GUINARDÓ DISTRICT

With an area of 1192Ha. and a population of more than 170.000 inhabitants, Horta-Guinardó is the third largest district of Barcelona, ​​after Sants-Montjuic and Sarria-Sant Gervasi.

The district’s name combines two distinct urban and historical realities: first, the old town of Horta, and the other, that of Guinardó, which was territory urbanized later on and which didn’t correspond to any legal nor administrative entity. Part of Guinardó’s current territory belonged to the old municipality of Sant Martí Provençals, and the rest to Sant Andreu de Palomar.

The district is divided into two parts: in the north, at the top of the mountain, the nuclei which currently form the Valley of Hebron, including Sant Genís de los Agudells, Montbau, la Vall d'Hebron, la Teixonera, la Clota, el Carmel, la Font d'en Fargues, and the old urban core of Horta. And secondly, futher down the mountain, are the neighborhoods of Guinardó and Guinardó Baix. A defining element of this district is its mountainous topography.
